What is ISR?

ISR is the global leader in the industry it pioneered in 1966: survival swimming lessons for infants and young children. ISR Instructors provide the safest and most effective survival swimming lessons available. The ISR lessons students receive today is a product of nearly 60 years of research and experience to achieve unparalleled results each day in pools around the world. Today, ISR’s mission, “Not One More Child Drowns,” is the foundation of everything we do and is the driving force behind ISR’s employees, independent ISR Instructors, and major corporate partnerships. ISR believes the successful prevention of the leading cause of accidental death for children under the age of 4 in the U.S. will require a large group of caring and capable professionals whose sole focus is to save lives.

Rollback to Float

All students, even those as young as 6 months old, learn the fundamental ISR skill of rolling onto their backs to float, rest, and breathe. Infants and toddlers who are not yet walking well will learn to maintain this position until help can reach them, and the rollback to float skill is just as important for our older students as they incorporate more swimming skills.

Swim-Float-Swim

As toddlers and young children gain more physical skills on land, they are ready to learn more skills in the water as well. ISR teaches children to swim a short distance, rotate onto their back to a floating position, and then turn over to continue the sequence of swimming and floating until they can reach safety at the steps, side of the pool, or shoreline.

Maintaining Skills

As children grow, their skills will need to be adjusted to their new height and weight. Refreshers and maintenance lessons are highly recommended to refine their skills as they’ve most likely hit developmental milestones since the last time they’ve seen us.

Meet Kerri

I have been married to my husband, Christopher, for almost 10 years. We have two amazing daughters Riley (8 years old) and Emery (6 years old).

Infant Swimming Resource is an extremely effective drowning prevention program. I am proud to be part of a team of individuals whose mission it is to keep our babies and children safe in and around the water by teaching them to be aquatic problem-solvers. Our children are so precious to us and it is our job as parents to be diligent in keeping them safe. I look forward to working with each of your little ones and teaching them a love for the water as well as very necessary swimming and self-rescue skills.

After having my first daughter in 2015, we did the normal ‘Mommy and Me’ swim classes. I found these to be unsuccessful in giving me the sense of security that my child was water safe.

I turned to the internet for help and learned about a survival swim program called ISR. At that time, there were no ISR Instructors in the Monterey area. It wasn’t until 2019, when we spent one year in Washington DC that we were able to participate in the ISR program.

I was hooked from the first day of lessons! I immediately became a huge advocate for the unique technique ISR uses to teach young children swimming and ISR Self-Rescue skills in the water. In only SIX WEEKS, my children (3 years old and 2 years old at the time) became aquatic problem solvers and solid swimmers through this amazing program.

Watching my 2 year old swim laps in a pool with confidence, made me want to bring this program back to my community on the Monterey Peninsula. I went through the intensive training program and it is the best decision I’ve ever made. I am thrilled to be able to provide these lessons to children in my community and I cannot wait to meet your family!
